Super smooth coatings, free from any droplets, and low compressive stress are the most beneficial characteristics of sputter coatings for cutting tools used for hard, high-speed and dry machining under elevated loads. Additionally, the development and improvement of materials will create ever new challenges for machining operations. In particular, aerospace materials such as titanium and high-temperature Superalloys that are common for power generation equipment require dense coatings with high thermal and oxidation stability.
Using some of the latest technologies available, HTL can offer both pre-coating tool preparation and post coating tool treatments as required in the industry today.

Great results come from good edge preparation and coating application. How do we know they are good? Simple, we invested in the best vision-based inspection
technology available, an Alicona Infinite Focus SL fitted with a motorised stage for large area scans. Alicona measurement devices are used successfully as tool measurement devices for cutting edge measurement, as roughness measurement devices and as form measurement devices. This technology allows us to measure form plus roughness in a single set up.
As standard we offer a targeted 48-hour turnaround for customers, from receipt of the tool on many of our coatings. A free pick-up service is supported by our own dedicated collection and delivery van as well as backed up via our logistics partner. The industry standard is a week, with express services costing extra. We will match the express service at no extra cost, even with the advanced coatings.
Diligence when booking tools in and out is another key area, as many customers complain about currently having their tools or parts returned in the wrong packaging or, even worse, having the wrong items returned. We have systems in place that will ensure a 100 per cent tool return to customer in new boxes as standard.

HTL’s PVD coatings include Cemecon ‘Hyperlox’ Aluminium Titanium Nitride (AlTiN), a popular proprietary formula which is now replacing the industry standard (TiAlN); Cemecon ‘AluSpeed’ Titanium Diboride (TiB2), one of the toughest coatings available, recommended for use on Aluminium and Titanium Alloys and other non-ferrous applications.

HiPULSE POWER is a nanocomposite, with a fine coating structure: resulting in an extraordinary toughness of the coating at high hardness. A premium Cemecon coating also known as HPN1.
Cutting tools approach completely new performance levels, and inserts for milling and grooving operations benefit significantly from this hardness and toughness.
Suitable application areas include high strength steels, titanium, high temperature alloys and hardened steels. For both wet and dry machining.

Also known as HYPERLOX, this coating provides and extremely smooth, high performance coating solution designed for high end cutting operations.
This coating solution is suitable for roughing applications in all common types of steels and cast irons. It has also demonstrated improved results in cutting complex alloys and stainless steels.
The coating thickness, applied at 3 micron, protects the substrate from the negative influences in the cutting process because of high temperature. SuperAlt is effective in dry and wet machining.

HiPULSE HARD perfectly combines the high temperature of a silicon-enhanced coating with the excellent adhesion of HiPIMS technology.
The premium HiPulse Hard coating demonstrates the superior combination of hardness and adhesion especially in hard machining of moulds & dies and machining high-alloy stainless steels for high temperature applications such as for turbines, the chemical industry or exhaust gas turbochargers.
The smooth droplet-free surface ensures optimum surface quality and decreases the temperature in the cutting zone by reducing friction.
Titanium DiBoride TiB2
Thickness: 2 microns, +/- 0.7 microns
Especially developed for high-performance machining of aluminium and aluminium alloys, Titanium DiBoride is called AluSpeed by CemeCon.
With its low affinity to aluminium, this monolayer coating minimises the formation of built-up edges. It is recommended for machining silicon aluminium alloys, titanium alloys, magnesium and copper alloys.
The extremely smooth surface reduces friction on the face and makes machining easier. Accurately constructed the high degree of hardness also guarantees excellent wear protection.
